Bike Riding

The Murray to Mountain Rail Trail right on the Autumn Beauty Cottage’s Doorstep is the perfect way to explore the countryside of Bright and surrounds, whilst discovering the wine, craft beer and fresh local produce the town has to offer. With the convenience of being right outside the door, the Rail Trail can take you to Porepunkah, Myrtleford or Beechworth. Bright also offers more ambitious rides for those who seek an adrenaline rush, including downhill mountain bike trails as well as challenging trails to Mt Hotham, Falls Creek or Mount Buffalo. There are also locally organised trips and training rides as well as bike hire available at Cyclepath in Gavan Street.

Hiking and Walking

Offering natural beauty, forests and rivers, there is plenty to explore through the Bright and Buffalo regions walking trails. Clearly, signposted, there are trails suited for everyone, with a variety of lengths and difficulties offered including Canyon Walk, which starts 300m from the front door or more challenging hikes for the experienced in Mount Buffalo and Alpine National Parks.


Victoria’s favourite snowfields at your doorstep! Autumn Beauty Cottages are less than an hour drive away from Victoria’s best ski slopes. Mount Hotham, Falls Creek, Mount Buffalo and Dinner Plain are all within a stone’s throw of Bright. Autumn Beauty Cottages in Bright gives you the ease of staying close to the snowfields without the exorbitant cost. During your stay, you can take a day out from skiing to rest your body and visit the local wineries or get a massage or spoil yourself at the day spa. Also, you can enjoy all of the towns bars, pubs and restaurants and the local amenities you don’t get up the mountain. Staying on the mountain is expensive but with Bright located nearby you can have your snow trip at an economical expense in the luxurious Autumn Beauty Cottages. The money you save can enable you to extend your stay and enjoy the snow for longer or take some time to explore Beautiful Bright and everything it has to offer. Why ski one mountain when you can ski three…. Bright is located central to Mt Hotham, Falls Creek and Mount Buffalo, why be stuck skiing one Mountain when it is an easy drive to any of these three snowfields.

Gourmet Food and Wine Region

Surrounded by some of the best wineries in Victoria, including Boynton’s, Michelini’s, Gapsted, Ringer Reef and Eagle Range, Bright offers tourists a taste of them all. Take a round trip (with a designated driver!) or join an organised tour to experience the delightful palates on offer. To partner with the fine wine, there are many exceptional restaurants dotted throughout Bright, all just a short stroll or drive from Autumn Beauty Cottages.

Climbing and Abseiling

Within Mt Buffalo National Park, some of the state’s most exciting abseiling and climbs lie in wait for those looking for adventure. There are local tour operators who can help organise the perfect trip, for both the experienced and inexperienced explorer. There is also a 350m guided cave exploration, which will have you squeezing, climbing and swimming through the different chambers on offer.

Alpine 4WD & Dirt Biking

There are many state forests around Bright, including The Alpine National Park – Alpine Valley, that offer tracks and roads for four-wheel driving and dirt biking. There are roads available for those who are experienced as well as the option of a guided tour.

Water Activities

Centenary Park offers a family-friendly place to enjoy the water, with access to Ovens River as well as The Bright Splash Park. The Splash Park is the perfect place to escape the warm weather, with a variety of water features to suit a range of ages. The Rotary Waterslide operates during the afternoons in Summer. All of these are located a mere 5-minute walk from the Autumn Beauty Cottages.

Water Sports

There are several places to enjoy aquatic activities around Bright. The Ovens River is dammed at Bright from Christmas to Easter, providing a refreshing place to swim and splash. Boating opportunities aplenty at Lake Buffalo near Myrtleford, the Pondage at Mt Beauty, Rocky Valley Dam at Falls Creek and Lake Catani at Mt Buffalo. For fishermen and women, several great spots are available including in the main areas of the Oven River, Buckland River and Buffalo River. Just make sure you have a Recreational Fishing License and you are good to go!

Aerial pursuits

Paragliding, hang gliding, ultra-light and tandem ultralight – a clear day sees the skies above Bright dotted with colourful craft. The mountain air, excellent facilities and geography make this a popular spot for those needing an adrenalin rush!

Horse Riding

Nestled at the base of the legendary High Country, you can explore all that Bright’s things to do and the surrounding regions have to offer via horseback. Enjoy a tour with a skilled guide, catering for everyone, from novices to those with years of experience.

For those interested in a leisurely game, The Bright Croquet Club welcomes visitors to join the fun. Located in the town centre off Bourke Street, the club is social and friendly, willing to give a hand to any fresh faces. Ensure you wear flat shoes and casual clothing is allowed.

Just 10 minutes drive from the Autumn Beauty Cottages is The 5 Acres Bar & Kitchen.

5 Acres Bar & Kitchen is a Lunch venue surrounded by a Botanical style garden, bursting with old garden Roses. The Garden plays host to a relaxed style cafe, serving cheese boards & small meals. A place to relax on a picnic rug or meet, eat, drink & relax with friends. A classic rotunda will also be home to the Dining Room, an a la carte Restaurant, with a seasonal ever changing long lunch style venue. Showcasing local produce from the area.

Art gallery


The Bright Art Gallery and Cultural Centre offers a diverse range of art exhibitions, workshops and cultural experiences. The Gallery regularly holds exhibitions showcasing both local and out-of-town artistswww.brightartgallery.org.au


The Bright Country Golf Club invites visitors to experience its exquisite 18-holes. Located at the foothills of the Victorian Alps, the course offers incredible views as well as a social club. Clubs, motorized carts and push buggies are available to hire from the clubhouse. The course is a short 5-minute drive from the Autumn Beauty Cottages.


Gym, Fitness & Swimming

Gym facilities, an indoor swimming pool, weights and spin bikes as well as an assortment of fitness classes are available as part of the Bright Sports Center. Located on Gavan Street, only a 2 minute walk away from the cottages. The centre is open all week except for Sundays.



If you are looking to play a friendly (or competitive!) game of tennis, The Bright Tennis Club is conveniently located on Coronation Avenue and is part of the Pioneer Park Complex. Offering four artificial grass courts as well as four ‘mini’ Hot Shots courts, the club invites community members and visitors to have a hit. The courts are available to hire on an hourly basis, simply contact the Alpine Shire Visitor’s Information Centre on 1800 111 885 or 03 5755 0584. There are also tennis racquets and balls available for hire.

Mt Buffalo National Park

Offering an array of activities, Mt Buffalo National Park is a must-see when visiting Bright and the Autumn Beauty Cottages. Boasting over 90km of walking trails combined with breathtaking scenery, perfect picnic spots and scenic waterfalls, the park is an ideal place to explore and become at one with nature. There are adventurous activities available as well, including rock climbing, abseiling and hang-gliding.
