The local mountain biking trails range from a quick 1.9km (approximately 25 minutes) to an extensive 52.6km multi-day expedition. This highlights the variety available, whether you’re looking for a short burst of adrenaline or a longer wilderness experience.

For those who prefer pedalling on smoother surfaces and soaking in the views, the region offers several fantastic cycling trails:

  • Bright to Porepunkah (6km): This popular and relatively flat rail trail offers a leisurely ride between the charming towns of Bright and Porepunkah. Enjoy the scenic river views and stop for a coffee or treat in either town.
  • Bright to Harrietville (Great Valley Trail): Following the Ovens River, this scenic trail stretches towards the historic town of Harrietville. Enjoy the picturesque valley views as you pedal along this well-maintained path.
  • Porepunkah to Myrtleford (24km): This longer rail trail connects the towns of Porepunkah and Myrtleford, winding through farmland and offering beautiful rural vistas. It’s a great option for a more extended day ride.

Don’t Miss the Big Screen Action!

For cycling enthusiasts, later this year there awaits a novel event – the Big Bikes Film Night.  Screening of the movie is travelling around the world – New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and Canada, arriving in Australia for the first screening in August.
